All things c❄❄l that I think are h🔥t !
Drive-In Movies
Drive-in movie theaters have been around since around 1915. Yes, you read right – 1915. Theatre de Guadalupe was opened in Las Cruces, New Mexico on April 23, 1915 showing Bags of Gold, produced by Siegmund Lubin. The first drive-in theater was patented in Pennsauken, New Jersey in 1933. This form of film viewing is timeless – bringing together families and friends for decades, creating movie-watching memories right from the backs, insides and even tops of one’s car. It has never gone out of style.
CILANTRO
I can’t get enough of this herb! At first glance it resembles flat leaf parsley – I will not confess to how many times I have bought cilantro, only to realize when using it that it is, in fact, parsley. Pro tip here: make sure to sniff it at the grocery story before buying 😉 Cilantro gives such a refreshing, citrusy flavor to meals. I use it in everything from pico de gallo to salads. It has loads of antioxidants and it’s literally cool. It is a natural antihistamine and can be applied topically with coconut oil to soothe sunburns, hives or rashes.
PLAY ON WORDS
I don’t know when it started but I find myself speaking using play on words often. In case you aren’t aware, a play on words is a humorous way of using a word or phrase so that more than one meaning is suggested. It makes sense that I do this since I’m kind of a goof ball at times. “I mustache you a question” is one that comes to mind, but frequently new ones come out of me spontaneously and I am always secretly impressed by my ability 😊
DIY-ING
While most women can confess to the allure of perusing the aisles of HomeGoods or that cute country store where you can see yourself leaving with one of everything, there’s nothing like the feeling of having completed that just-as-you-saw it built-in bookshelf or smelling that particular aroma you’ve been craving from your clothes that you’ve rendered with the use of homemade dryer sheets. Do-it-yourself projects can be about so many things from home improvement to crafting to self-care routines. When you think about DIY projects, what do you think of?
FOG
Fog, ahh that ethereal look in the air. Sometimes, yes, it can be a bit scary to drive through, but most of the time it creates a mood of mystery and magic that can take your breath away. Whether it’s over an ocean, moist ground marsh or city skyline, I’ll never tire of the dreamy mixture of cool land and warm water air.
H2O For Wrinkle Release
Who doesn’t enjoy the look and feel of slipping into a freshly pressed shirt or pants? I definitely do but to get that polished look in seconds before heading out the door, I put my faith into a simple spray bottle to do the job. Any spray bottle will do, even one that was previously used for room spray or whatever (so long as you clean it out thoroughly). You can even add a little fabric softener to the water for an enhanced effect. With a few simple spritzes, my garment is as good as dry cleaned. Well, not really, but you get the idea – Lol. Some garments are made of materials that are delicate and using water directly on them may not be the best idea, e.g. cashmere or silk, so this trick is best used on more durable fabrics like cotton, linen or polyester.
EXERCISING
Moving your body has so many benefits. Most of us have heard this. But how do you make it work for you? I enjoy body weight exercises like with calisthenics, Pilates or yoga to keep me toned and flexible. For more of an aerobic style workout, I enjoy high interval intensity training or running. My must have accessories are a yoga block (great for deeper lunges & squats and uneven pushups 💪🏼) and my mat – I use one by JadeYoga. I find JadeYoga mats have amazing grip and comfort and are made from natural rubber from rubber trees. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention working out with Caroline Girvan. I first found her on YouTube several years ago. Caroline’s workouts are both easy to follow and a challenge. When I am regularly active, I feel that my quality of life improves significantly and that is priceless.
pearls
Pearls are formed when a small particle, like a grain of sand or a parasite, enters an oyster or mussel shell. What many might not know is that most all species of shelled mollusks are capable of producing pearls (technically called calcareous concretions). The mollusk, to protect itself, secretes layers of nacre (aka mother of pearl) around the intruder. Over time, these layers accumulate, forming the pearl. In some cultures, pearls represent the soul’s journey towards perfection and enlightenment. Pearls can be formed in two ways, naturally or cultured by a pearl farmer. Naturally formed pearls are incredibly rare, with approximately only 1 in 10,000 wild oysters containing one.
DRINKING WATER
It’s the best drink on earth. I drink it so many ways and at all hours of the day. Throughout the night by my bedside, first thing in the morning hot with lemon and cayenne pepper, infused with fruits or vegetables and simply as-is. I tend to prefer it at room temperature since doing so has been proven to more effectively hydrate. There are many types of water out there: alkaline water, deuterium depleted water, water infused with vitamins etc. I honestly don’t know which is the best, but I do make sure to be mindful of my daily dose of water. I usually carry a stainless-steel water bottle with me. That allows me to fill up wherever I go and I’m being considerate of our environment. I heard someone tell me recently, if dehydration wins, we all lose. Love this, and so… I keep drinking. Water over all other beverages, always. 🚰
quirky landscaping & Lawn art
I just love it when people come up with fun ways to create a green atmosphere around themselves. While a Versailles garden cannot be overlooked for its opulence, I often admire the ways in which one makes their outdoor space unique, practical and environmentally friendly. The city of Amsterdam is using moss on bricks and rooftops to purify the air and cool buildings. I find Mary Reyolds‘ style of landscaping of particular interest. Her approach and understanding of flora and fauna is impressive and simply magical. Mary is an internationally acclaimed landscape designer who launched her career at the Chelsea flower show in 2002, the story of which was made into a 2016 movie called “Dare to be Wild”.
